Welcome

Damascus - the capital of Syria. The population is 1,754,000.

Damascus is one of the oldest cities in the world, first mentioned in 2500 BC. The old town is famous for its seven doors, most of which have been preserved and renovated. The most famous of these are the doors of Bab Shark (east door) and Bab Tuman (Thomas door). There are also magnificent mosques in Damascus that have centuries-old history. The Omayyad Mosque is one of the most famous of them all.

Syria is also famous for its delicious pastries and sweets, seasoned with a unique spice. While walking the streets of Damascus, you can often find candy shops, where you can buy traditional Arabic halva.
